Abstract

Prevention of infection is a priority in the care of a patient undergoing an open-heart surgery. Keeping patients free from infection during hospitalization improves patient outcomes and can save millions of dollars in infection related expenses. Implementation of Chlorhexidine Gluconate (CHG) bathing is an infection prevention measure used for patients undergoing an open-heart surgery. This poster will discuss the endeavor to locate, review, and summarize the evidence regarding the use of CHG bathing prior to open-heart surgery and compare the findings with contemporary practice.
