Abstract

The patient is a 43-year-old male previously diagnosed with covid-19 and viral pneumonia presented to the emergency department with cough, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, body aches, and fever. The patient's condition seemed to be worsening since diagnosis. The patient's oxygenation status deteriorated and the patient was given oxygen supplementation. As the patient's condition continued to deteriorate, the patient was placed on noninvasive continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). Patient was noncompliant with medical staff. The patients became hypoxic with daily activities. Due to patient’s deterioration status, the patient was intubated using ARDS Net Protocol, placed on nitric oxide due to chronic hypoxia, and placed in a proning position. As days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) progressed, the patient was slowly weaned from nitric oxide while awaiting the transfer to an Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) facility to gain the advanced care the patient was requiring.
