Abstract

Matt Setters, owner and CEO of Setters, CPA & Company of Portsmouth, Ohio, wants to expand his firm’s client base. This accounting services provider opened in 2019 and had only used word of mouth and referred/legacy clientele from a partnering firm to attract customers. Setters agreed to partner with Shawnee State University’s Marketing Management class in Fall 2019 for an agency project. The student team evaluated Setters’ situation and proposed a strategic marketing plan targeting small businesses and private individuals in need of tax services. The teams devised a strategy with supportive tactics, suggested messaging, sample collaterals, and outcome evaluation suggestions. The students presented the proposal live and Setters was free to use all materials in actual practice.
