Abstract

One major problem that teachers in many schools experience is maintaining student engagement. Finding a way to peak the students’ interest, while still making sure they understand and learn the material can be a challenge. The style of classroom that the teacher decides to have can drastically affect the learning environment and either increase or decrease the students’ focus. Most classrooms follow fairly closely to that of a traditional classroom, but this research looks at the effectiveness of an active learning environment to create more engagement. In order to see how effective this idea is, an action research project will be conducted. It is important to note that in this type of environment the teacher will use forms of active learning to teach the students rather than traditional. To see if this is the solution, my research will involve making lessons designed to fit the active learning educational methods.
