Abstract

This presentation will explore a possible root cause of why students may struggle with motivation in the math classroom. The research presented is based off of Duckworth’s growth and fixed mindset ideas. The goal of this study was to identify what experiences students have had in relation to mathematics that led to either a fixed or growth mindset and how the mindset effected their academic career as current 9th grade geometry students in the foothills of Appalachia.
