Abstract
The patient is a 64 year old male who contracted Covid earlier this year. He was admitted for shortness of breath on his home oxygen at 2lpm nasal cannula. Patient has a history of Black Lung, Congestive Heart Failure, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Pulmonary Hypertension. A month later the patient required a higher demand of oxygenation because of constant shortness of breath. He was then taken off the regular nasal cannula and placed on a higher flow oxygen delivery device. A few days later the high flow oxygen was not enough and due to hypercapnic respiratory failure he was intubated and placed on continuous mechanical ventilation. After multiple failed attempts to wean the patient from mechanical ventilation, the family decided to make him comfort care and extubate him terminally.
