Abstract
Goodwill Industries of Southern Ohio is a nonprofit helping people with disabilities and challenges with training and job opportunities through funding from donated items sold in their retail spaces. The organization hoped to assess whether customers know what their profits are used for, what makes customers shop at the store, and find evidence that supports prior notions associated with the demographics and psychographics of shoppers. Goodwill agreed to participate in an agency project with SSU students in BUMK 3200 Consumer Behavior. The team evaluated Goodwill’s situation and proposed a field behavior study and a voluntary, nine-question customer survey with an incentive for shoppers. The live proposal to Goodwill’s executive director included the method, subjects/participants, and offered a suggested way to analyze the findings using each of these instruments.
