Abstract

I will be giving an expository talk about the sums of two independent types of discrete random variables. In particular, I will present a proof that the sum of two independent binomial random variables is a binomial random variable. I will also prove that the sum of two independent Poisson random variables is a Poisson random variable. Some background information will be included as well.
